Join Us
Interested in joining the team? We are always looking for undergraduate and graduate students who are passionate about learning what goes into building racecars or are looking to gain more engineering experience. Our team is all-inclusive and accepts all members regardless of major or study, and thus is one multi-disciplinary engineering design teams on campus. MRacing demands a variety of skills varying from structural engineering to fluid mechanics to marketing. As a new member coming into our organization, we will teach you everything you need to know to become a dedicated and active member of our team.
Our Divisions
Aerodynamics
The aerodynamics division designs, simulates, tests, and manufactures all of the aerodynamic components on the car. The division takes total downforce, downforce balance, and manufacturability into account when designing components, and documents their design philosophy for future iterations.
Business
The business division works on the cost real case scenario and the business presentation for competition events. The division is also responsible for sponsorship, social media, marketing, team merchandise, and outreach.
Chassis
The chassis division is responsible for designing, manufacturing, and testing the frame of the vehicle. They build a monocoque constructed from carbon fiber and honeycomb core, and are responsible for driver ergonomics.
Drivetrain
The drivetrain division designs all components that transfer mechanical power and contain fluids: motors, gearboxes, and cooling. Their system includes the outboard drive system, capable of producing 1000 Nm of torque at the push of a pedal.
Powertrain
The powertrain division is responsible for all electronics on the vehicle. The division aims to develop a lightweight, efficient and reliable battery pack as well as a custom wiring harness for our low-voltage sensors.
Suspension
The suspension division handles suspension, steering, and tires. The team focuses on simulation, design, manufacturing and tuning in order to provide the greatest longitudinal and lateral grip for the car while contributing the lowest possible vehicle weight.
Autonomous
The autonomous division is responsible for making our car drive without a driver. The autonomous system takes data from a wide variety of on-board sensors, cameras, and antennas, to precisely map its position and trajectory.
Vehicle Dynamics and Simulation
The VDS division is responsible for simulating and tuning the dynamics properties of our racecar. Engineers in this division us a wide range of motorsports-centered software and complex algorithms to control how the car moves in every direction
Alumni Testimonials
“MRacing was the core of my college experience. During my time on the team, I learned invaluable lessons and skills that directly translate to my career in motorsports. This team is great for those who like competition, dream big, and want to win.”
— Luca Ranzani, Team Captain 2021-2023
“Joining MRacing was the best decision I made in college. I had the chance to do engineering work with tons of freedom, gain practical experience, and meet amazing friends. It was a huge part of my time at Michigan, and I think every engineering student should have a challenging, competitive experience like this.”
— Teddy Gartland, Technical Director 2020
